Silk Screen Printing

Off The Press Collective

Friday 17th September, 10:00 – 12:00 and 14:00 – 16:00

This workshop is an introduction into the process or a refresher for those who would like to revisit it. We shall introduce the screen-printing process and demonstrate a few printing methods. Under our guidance you will then have the opportunity to work with stencils and experiment with colours and blends. All materials are provided. You just need yourself and an apron. We always suggest bringing some reference material or having an idea of what you would like to print so you can get cracking.

Off the Press is a printmaking collective based in Bury St Edmunds. They specialise in the production of quality prints and are passionate about keeping traditional processes alive.

Bend it like quilters

Sue Calverley and Kip Gresham

Thursday 16th September, 10:00 – 12:00 and 14:00 – 16:00

A whole day workshop for 12 people in which we will design and make several dramatic quilts. You will be introduced to the extraordinary quilts made by groups of African American women in Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Based on the dramatic scale, colour and structure of those famous pieces, you will become collaborators in the processes of designing, selecting colours, cutting and assembling new large- scale works.

The workshop will focus on ways of working together. This is a shared and social event. What we make will be a demonstration of who we are and how we function as a community, just like the women in Gee’s Bend.

Sue Calverley graduated from Winchester School of Art with a degree in Fashion, Woven and Knitted Textiles. Kip Gresham is an artist printmaker who works in close collaboration with a wide range of contemporary artists. Colour and abstract imagery are at the heart of his activity.
